40+ Years of Aquatic Experience

Doug McGenn has over 35+ Years experience in the Waterpark constructions industry. In the 1980's Doug began travelling to country's like China managing the installation off waterslides. In 1999 Doug was employed with Amusement Leisure Equipment Ltd. where he was involved in the construction of a 85 ft tall T-Rex. This  became the World's Largest Dinosaur replica and is still open today at the Visitor Information Center located in Drumheller, Alberta Canada. You can still climb the stairs to reach the viewpoint which is looking out of the mouth of the T-Rex. In the 2000's Doug travelled to the United States where he worked with Aquatic Pools & Construction Inc. to install Bluff Falls Waterpark, now known as Hydro Adventures. He also managed the construction of one of the largest indoor waterparks on the east coast called Scott's Splash Lagoon

For 35+ years he travelled the world managing the waterslide and waterpark play equipment installations for projects. Throughout this journey Doug created relationships with an abundance of swimming pool companies where he acquired skills and knowledge to start building pools himself. He became familiar with many types of swimming pool construction including traditional cast in place, stainless steel and shotcrete.

After many years working with other companies, Doug and Kim decided to form their own company. Since incorporation Serenity Pools & Hardscapes Inc. has completed many projects. The company started by installing vinyl liner pools in the Okanagan. We recognized a need for a company that provided all of the services required for a complete working swimming pool. We insisted on leaving the clients premises as close to it's pre construction condition as possible,  preventing the need for hiring more trades. This could include pouring concrete sidewalks, building retaining walls, water features, planters, benches even laying sod. This was where we came up the with term Hardscapes.

It was an easy progression to move into the commercial pool industry and with Doug expertise the Hotel market provided the ability to provide a turnkey swimming pool construction including the supply and installation of the necessary Waterslide components.

Kimberley McGenn started out in 1990  as a lifeguard and swimming instructor in Regina Saskatchewan working at many different places in Regina as well as Calgary. One of the longest being a full time lifeguard and instructor at the Downtown YMCA in Regina, Sk where she taught Aquatic Leadership Courses and received Lifesaving certification including Award of Merit, Distinction, Aquatic Emergency Care and National Lifeguard Service Certification. These were the highest lifesaving lifeguarding certifications you can receive in the aquatic field at the time.

Kim continued her training by attending Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology in Regina and completed her Emergency Medical Technician Certification and Internship.

From there Kim attended the University of Saskatchewan while working at the Saskatoon YMCA and the University of Saskatchewan recreation pool as a lifeguard and instructor. Throughout this time Kim participated in many lifeguard competitions including competing in the Saskatchewan Provincial Competition, Manitoba Provincials and as well as the National Lifeguard Championships in Regina Saskatchewan in 1992.

This was a passion that naturally progressed into her business. Kimberley took on a head lifeguard position in Calgary at a newly constructed aquatic recreational facility called Westside Recreational Centre. It was here where Doug and Kim met. In 2002 Kim decided to travel with Doug to the United States where she completed her United States Deep Water Lifeguard Certification. Soon after that the natural  progression was to begin learning the skills of how to construct a swimming pools. She began working  for Aquatic Pools &  Construction with Doug building large stainless steel swimming pools, kiddie pools and lazy rivers as well as building waterslides and play structures.

After a few years Kim returned home with Doug and they purchased a home in Westbank, B.C. It was here where Serenity Pools & Hardscapes Inc. was created.
